The Period Validation Module for Microsoft Dynamics SL offers a robust way of controlling user entries into fiscal period fields. Setting up basic limits is a simple yet effective way to keep users from erroneously or maliciously entering periods too far out of reality. It also provides a programmatic way to enforce some basic business process controls. These limits can be set separately for each of the period controlling modules and all of their sub-modules in the Dynamics SL system (see the sidebar for a list). The past and future limitations are also set independently of each other for maximum control. Finally, set up exceptions for different user roles to allow managers broader latitude in period overrides.
