This is another in a series of articles
dedicated to helping you prepare for the upcoming release of
Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0. In this article, we are discussing the
new User Interface, introduced with Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 that
empowers customers to tailor their home page and menu around their
role. The User Interface is modeled after Microsoft Outlook;
something most users are familiar with.
A new addition to the interface is the Menu Maintenance (98.350.00)
application, which is part of the Administration group. Menu
Maintenance provides the ability to tailor the menu to those screens
and reports, which the employee uses, based on their role and
responsibilities. Are you thinking ‘How refreshing to have the
ability to have the software conform to Customer’s business
processes for once?’ We are!
As an example of Menu Maintenance, the payroll clerk has standard
steps to follow every pay period to ensure timely and accurate
paychecks. From verifying that all time sheets have been entered and
released, to calculating, reviewing/editing and printing checks, to
running post Payroll reports, the process must be followed as the
Customer defined it. A custom menu, including only the screens and
reports needed to perform these responsibilities by a payroll clerk
may look like this…

For cases where you have multiple people doing the same or
similar functions, you can set up menu groups such that everyone
performing that role follows the same process by having the same
menu, which aligns to the company procedures.

Tip: If you are accustomed to using the Classic view menu, the
product will ship with a group called EVERYONE and it is modeled
similarly. You can start with the EVERYONE group and copy parts
of it to create your custom menus. The EVERYONE menu cannot be
modified.
