Would you like to be able to see the screen numbers along with screen names in the 6.0 menu?

No need to update the Delta.mnu file! Run the following statement against the system database in Microsoft SQL Query Analyzer:

update screen set name=substring(number, 0, 6)+ ' ' + rtrim(name) where len(name)<35

This statement will update all screen names that are less than 35 characters in length (all but 66 screens).

The following statement allows you to remove screen numbers from the menu:

update screen set name=replace(name, substring(number, 0, 6)+ ' ', '')

Here is some helpful insight our employees have learned from working in Microsoft Solomon (now part of Microsoft Dynamics). 

Consolidating Invoices in Microsoft Solomon 6.0 or later releases

* To create an Accounts Receivable invoice if the customer’s Consolidate Invoice check box is selected on the Customer Maintenance (08.260.00), Order Management tab: 

1.  Confirm shipment on all shippers that will be consolidated in one invoice.

2.  In Order Management, run the Consolidated Invoice (40.682.00) report to consolidate the shippers onto one invoice.

3.  Print the Sales Journal (40.690.00) report to post the consolidated invoice to Accounts Receivable.

If the Consolidated Invoice report is not run, the Sales Journal will not create an invoice in Accounts Receivable for the consolidated invoice.

2005 Year-End Updates Available

The Microsoft Dynamics™ SL Year-End Updates for 2005 have been released. They are available for 5.5 Service Pack 3 and later releases. It is not necessary for the 2004 year-end updates to be installed before you install the 2005 updates. Visit one of the following links to obtain the download file, a list of the specific changes that were made, and complete installation instructions.

Extending the capabilities of Business Portal in Microsoft Dynamics SL

Business Portal in Microsoft Dynamics SL can provide access to all the back office information that a user may need in one convenient location. If the packaged solution does not meet the needs of a particular business or user, it can be customized. Business Portal is not just a business application. It is also a complete software development kit. Customizations can be made using the Business Portal Software Development Kit (SDK), ranging from adding web parts and web part pages in SharePoint to implementing your own user controls in a Windows application.

Business Portal can be used with your user interface applications, since it provides the business and data tiers separately. A multitude of result viewers can be used to display information. You can extend that functionality and provide your own implementation. You can also extend context-sensitive actions and tasks to make them more relevant to a user’s role.

The result viewers that are provided in Business Portal are a toolkit in themselves. You can use the components that make up the default result viewers to build new ones, or you can add your own functionality to current result viewers.

Do you want to track additional detail on your purchase orders during the approval process?

In Microsoft Dynamics SL release 6.5, a new Requisitions module was added to augment the core Purchasing application. This new module offers various levels of approval processing during the life of a requisition.

The Requisitions module can be customized if you need to see specific data for tracking purposes on the requisition header or detail lines. This could mean adding tables, fields, and look-ups, which can all be done using Tools for Visual Basic.

Plumbline Solutions can assist you with customizations that might be needed to take you from an earlier version of the Requisitions application to the new module, or we can help you with other customization.
