Dynamics SL Shortcut Tips & Tricks

Are you amazed at how quickly others navigate in Dynamics SL without ever using their mouse?

Wondering what you can do to help others improve their SL proficiency?

Pass these shortcuts along to co-workers or print a copy off to keep near your computer.

These SL Shortcuts are ones you should be using.  Chances are you will learn a few new ones.  I did.

These shortcuts work in Dynamics SL and other Microsoft applications:

Ctrl N   New (allows you to start a new document)
Ctrl A Highlights all connected fields (great to use before Ctrl C)
Ctrl S Save (***careful, fat fingering can cause Ctrl D, which is delete)
Ctrl D Delete
Ctrl F Finish (finish performs Save & new all at once)
Ctrl C Copy (this works well from Project Net Profit into Excel)
Ctrl V Paste (don't rekey info from Word or Excel)
Ctrl Home  First (takes you to the first record in that field)
Ctrl End  Last (takes you to the last record in that field)
Ctrl Z Undo paste
Page Down  Moves you record by record to most recently created
Page Up Moves you record by record to oldest document

Are you using your F keys?  Here are some favorites:

F1 Opens SL Help specific to the screen you are on
F2 In a date field, brings up the relative period or relative date values; in a text field, allows enables cursor movement inside the field (including “Home” & “End”)
F3 Opens PV list or the calendar on date fields.  If you prefer the mouse, double right click on the field.
F4 Toggles between “Field View” and “Grid View” – i.e. change lines to grid and grids to line in your detail areas.  Double left click for the same results
F5 Clears the value in a field
F7 Inserts today’s date in a date field
F9 Opens “Yellow note” for editing
F10 Puts focus on the Solomon Tool Bar
ALT+F3 Perform a search (same as clicking the Magnifying Glass icon )

You may notice F6 & F8 are missing...

If you know what they do, please send Carolyn an email: cblaylock@leetechnologies.com.

More about F2 - Making "Relative Date" work for you.

F2 mentions "Relative Date" in the function tips above.

Many users may wonder what "Relative Date".  Relative Date is a powerful function that combined with Report Templates can save you time and energy.  It programmatically allows you to generate a report x periods from the current period and/or Y years from the current year.

As an example, if your AR department frequently runs the Period Sensitive Aging Report for the most recently closed period and the same period last year to compare your AR trend, you can create a template “Current Period Prior Year”.

While building the report  template, under Report Tab, in the Period field, click F2.  Change the Year to -1.  Go to your select tab and make any other preset requirements for the template and save the template.   Like all templates, this template can be private or public.

Each time the template is loaded, the system will check the current AR period and automatically change the period to one year prior.  No more fussing with the report tab.  Load template, print or print preview.  One more step eliminated.
Imagine all the places this can save you and other staff time.  One experienced user just started using it in Purchasing for Unvouchered Receipts.

Where will you use it?
