Following are questions and issues that surfaced during the Existing Customer Roadshow Events. Thank you for your input, and we hope you find this collection of responses useful!
Q:
Is there
documentation that provides what User Fields are being used in new releases?
Is there a place that a User/Partner could go and find what User Fields are used
in general?
A:
As a rule, SL Development
should not be using User fields at all but using S4Future fields instead.
If S4Future fields are used, they should be documented in the schema help. If
someone finds a S4Future field being used by SL but is not documented as such,
they can file a bug so we can clean up the undocumented uses. As you know
though, just because a S4Future field is unused, it is not safe to use for
clients since we may use it in the future. If a client finds user fields being
used by the product (which normally are reserved for customizations), I would be
interested in what those are, especially if they are undocumented in the schema
doc.
Q:
Does Quick Send work with anything other than
Outlook email?
A:
Quick Send uses the
email capabilities of App Server. The App Server help states the following so
the answer to requiring Outlook (or Exchange) is yes.
profile (that is, the machine where the Application
Server will run must have a client installation of
either Microsoft Exchange or Outlook).”
Q:
Can invoices be processed (printed) using multiple
multi-currency formats? For example, can an invoice be printed in USD and
then turn around and print it in CAN?
A:
It can only be
printed in 1 format which is defined on the project.
Q:
When using multi-currency and an exchange rate
changes – there is a booking to Realized Gain or Loss account (RGOL) – does this
happen automatically or does one have to manually create the adjusting entry
into the RGOL account?
A:
The adjusting entry
is automatically calculated and the entry is created by SL for them.

Q:
Has the functionality changed which would allow
more than just the Business Manager and Project Manager to access the Project
Net Profitability functionality, if the user did not have to be assigned to the
Project Executive role?
A:
It appears in the
newest BP version that if the Employee ID is associated to the Project ID in
Project Employee Maintenance, or within Resource Assignment, AND if in the
Project Maintenance for that project, the “Available for all Employees to
Charge” checkbox is cleared, then it appears they do NOT have to be assigned to
the Project Executive role in order to review the project in Project Analyst.
Q:
What is the character maximum that one can use in
each header on the menu maintenance (i.e. Payroll menu documenting business
processes/tasks as we viewed within the 7.0FP1 sales image)?
Q:
Delegations within BP Project Time Entry – does
this exist? If not, are there any plans to have this as an enhancement?
A:
No, it doesn’t
exist at this time. It has been submitted as an enhancement.
Please go and vote on this
enhancement, if you would like to see this in the future (see voting
instructions).
Q: Do Column Headings come over when utilizing Copy and Paste within grids?
A:
No.
Q: Has there been a bug reported that upon deleting a User from the system that the access rights remain in the tables?
A:
At this time there has not been anything submitted
to Support and this could not be reproduced using 7.0 SP1 with SQL
Authentication.
If you can reproduce an issue like this, please
report the issue to Microsoft Dynamics SL Support.
Q: Does the Format Painter exist in SSRS?
A:
No.
Format Painter does not exist in Visual Studio.
Controls (textboxes, buttons, etc.) with similar
characteristics can be edited simultaneously by holding down the Ctrl key and
clicking on each field.
This will allow you to select multiple fields at
once, and then the properties can be edited.
All selected controls will be updated with any
property changes.
Additional tip:
If similar controls will be added, create one and
edit the properties as needed,
right-click on the control, select Copy,
right-click on an open area of the Layout tab, and select
Paste (or press Ctrl+V to Paste).
Q: Visual Studio – how do you get it? What does it come with?
A:
Visual Studio must be installed in order to use
Business Intelligence Development Studio.
Visual Studio can be purchased or Visual Studio
Express can be downloaded from
www.microsoft.com.
Business Intelligence Development Studio is a
component of SQL Server 2005 (or SQL 2000 sp2 or greater).
If Visual Studio is not installed, a Visual Studio
shell is installed with BIDS.
This shell would have very limited capabilities of
Visual Studio.
The components of Business
Intelligence vary depending on the edition of SQL Server being used.
Please see the Business Intelligence section at the
following link to compare features:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinfo/features/compare-features.mspx
Q: Can Application Server provide more functionality when a manual step is required (i.e. Actuating the Okay button) if using the “Push the Freakin Button” product? If so, how can I get it?
A: Yes. PTFB Pro (Push the Freakin Button): http://www.ptfbpro.com/index.shtml -- $29.95
Last free
version of PTFB:
http://www.aplusfreeware.com/categories/util/system2.html
Q: Default password - any documentation on it that it’s blank?
A: We were not able to locate any documentation on this topic.
Q: FRx scripts – do you need to run these still?
A:
There are scripts that we are
familiar with that relate specifically to the FRx Financial Reporter piece,
separate from FRx Forecaster. These scripts are applied on the Solomon databases
when FRx is initially installed to allow FRx to run its server based indexing.
They should only need to be rerun if a new company or database is set up, or if
KeyChange is run to modify the account/subaccounts, etc. These scripts
would still be present with the version of FRx Financial Reporter that would be
used with SL 7.0.
Q: Does SSRS work with Visual Studio Express?
A: SQL Server Reporting Services can be set up to be used with Visual Studio Express. The Express edition would not provide all of the features of the full edition.
If using SQL Server 2005 Express, SQL Server 2005 with
Advanced Features and the SQL Server 2005 Express Toolkit must also be installed
in order to get the Business Intelligence Development Studio component.
Q: Question on SSRS management reporter – access rights – can you restrict by glaccounts?
A:
SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services uses role-based
authorization and Windows authentication to determine who can perform operations
and access items on a report server. Role-based authorization categorizes into
roles the set of actions that a user or group can perform.
All users interact with a report
server within the context of a role. A user can be assigned to different kinds
of roles for different items. For example, a user who is a member of the
Content Manager
role for one report may be a member of the
Browser
role for another report. Predefined roles are provided that group related tasks
into logical units. Examples of some of the roles that are available include
Content Manager,
Publisher,
and Browser.
You can create new roles or modify the existing ones to customize the tasks that
each role supports.
Role definitions are organized
into two categories. Item-level roles describe operations that affect reports
and other items that are accessed through the report server folder hierarchy.
System-level roles describe operations that are outside the scope of the folder
hierarchy. Examples of system-wide operations include creating and managing
shared schedules or accessing Report Builder, which are operations that can be
performed independently of any item. Item-level and system-level roles should be
used together in role assignments to provide a complete set of permissions
throughout the report server folder hierarchy, and across the report server.
The role assignments that you set
are used for all subsequent access to the report server, regardless of the tool
or approach used to access the server. Report server access through Report
Manager, Management Studio, the authoring tools, URL access, and programmatic
access through other applications is controlled through the role assignments
that control access to a specific server.
Security settings are stored in
the report server database. If you are configuring multiple report servers in a
scale-out-deployment, the role assignments that you define on one instance are
stored in a shared database and used by all the other instances in the same
scale-out deployment.
Additional Note:
Permission requests cannot influence the runtime to
give your code more
permissions than the runtime would have given your
code had the request not been made.
However, requests are what your code uses to inform
the runtime about the permissions it
requires in order to run.
To summarize, when designing the report, rights
should be granted for
full access to the report and then have
rights/permissions removed where necessary.
If role-based security does not allow data
field-level security (Restrict by GL Account), one option
would be to deploy multiple reports.
Use the initial report as a template and create new
reports
with where clauses on the SQL Query on the Data tab
of the report designer (Visual Studio).
Restrict access to each report based on the users
that can only see specific accounts.
Q:
FRx
Forecaster – Can you upload an entire projects’
budget?
A:
Data can be brought into Forecaster using a variety
of different methods. The Excel Add-In allows you to pull information from Excel
into Forecaster. You can copy/paste from Excel into Forecaster. There is
the ExpressLink which allows you to bring data from the General Ledger into
Forecaster. Also there is the Import Wizard which allows you to import data from
a file as well.
Q:
Doc Share – If you’re printing a report would you
also receive a copy?
A:
If Quick Send is configured then yes, a copy of the
document (i.e. Invoice) would be sent to the identified recipient within the set
up and a copy would also be sent to SharePoint once the Document Sharing is set
up as well.
Q:
In Hard CLOSE is there an ability to lock down
future periods?
A:
No.
There is only the ability to lock down prior
periods.
Please submit this as a product enhancement, or search to
see if there is an existing enhancement and vote on it.
Q:
Where do the overages go in task maximums?
(During the allocation process, task maximums are
identified and then booked to the task – but where does the overage get booked?
Is there an account code or glaccount / sub account
that the overage is booked to?)
A:
The overage gets posted to a designated (by the
user) adjustment account. We don’t stop posting or recording revenue. For
example:
Transaction is 12,500, and project maximum is 10,000.
We would post 12,500 to revenue, and -2500 to a revenue
adjustment account.
If another transaction comes in the following month for 1200,
we would still post 1200 to the revenue account, and -1200 to the revenue
adjustment.
Note:
Over the max transactions use the detail setup on
the Project Controller Setup – Bill To A Maximum Setup Tab.
Entries go to the PRPROJMX table.
Q:
EDI – Is HL7 supported in Dynamics SL 7.0?
A:
The SL EDI Transaction set consists of 850, 855,
856, 857, 875, 880, 940, and 945.
HL7 refers to health care transactions.
Data
is mapped for these transactions from the Standard file to conform to the SL
flat file format.
If there are HL7 transactions falling under this
transaction set, the data could be mapped to the SL format.
Q:
Are there inherent issues with upgrading BP when
setting up users?
Q:
Business Portal – does it work with any other
browsers?
A:
Business Portal for Dynamics SL supports only
Internet Explorer.
Q:
Invoices and other documents that are going to
Share Doc are in Word format.
Can they be in PDF?
A:
Currently, the functionality will only provide
copies in a Word format.

the Feature Pack ?
A:
In Service Contracts this was a feature in 6.5 and
in 7.0 we brought the feature as a term within Terms Maintenance.
Q:
Limitations to BP – Query export to Excel 1000
lines?
A:
It’s not really a
limitation to the export but a limitation in the Query page. When a Query
is run, only the first 1000 records are returned. Exporting the results
will only use the current result set.
Q:
Project Inquiry – does the grid sort work there?
A: At this time, grid sort works with in Task Net Profit Inquiry (PA.PND.00), Transaction Detail Inquiry (PA.TRD.00), Commitment Detail Inquiry (PA.CMD.00), and Assignment Inquiry (PA.RTI.00).
Q:
Set up screen – where is it for business date
security and hard close access?
A:
Business Date Security:
The Business Date (98.BZD.00) window is now
available only to the Microsoft Dynamics SL administrator role (SYSADMIN) by
default and to those who have been granted update rights for the window.
To grant access to the Business Date, open Access
Rights Maintenance (95.270.00) and add the screen 98.BZD.00 to the user or group
rights.
View rights will allow the user to see the Business Date.
Update rights will allow the user to change the
Business Date.
Hard Close Access: The hard close
option can be overridden in Initialize Mode.
If you choose to
prevent posting to prior periods in regular transaction processing, you can
designate individuals,
based on your organization’s business practices, who will have Initialization
Mode access rights in
the screens to override the posting restrictions.
Hard Close is activated in GL Setup in the Posting
Options area, but the Initialize Mode access is granted to the individual
screens where the Period to
Post is entered.
